Healing for the Heart

We are looking for knowledgeable and compassionate Trauma Specialists (sessional) to support individuals and groups through our psycho-education programme. The Trauma Specialist will play a critical role in helping participants understand and manage the effects of trauma through structured educational sessions and support which is rooted in cutting edge neuroscience. This role is ideal for someone working at an advanced practitioner level, with strong facilitation skills, and a deep commitment to mental health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Programme Facilitation:
    • Lead psycho-education sessions for individuals and groups, providing information on trauma, its effects, and coping strategies.
    • Develop and adapt session content to meet the needs of diverse participants.
    • Create a safe and supportive environment for participants to learn and share their experiences.
  • Individual Support:
    • Conduct assessments to understand the specific needs and goals of each participant.
    • Provide one-on-one support and guidance to individuals as they navigate the psycho-education programme.
    • Develop personalized care plans and monitor progress, adjusting as needed.
  • Group Support:
    • Facilitate group discussions and activities that promote understanding and peer support.
    • Encourage participation and foster a sense of community among group members.
    • Address group dynamics and manage any conflicts that arise in a constructive manner.
  • Education and Training:
    • Stay current with the latest research and best practices in trauma interventions and psycho-education.
    • Develop educational materials and resources to enhance the programme.
    • Provide training and support to other staff and volunteers involved in the programme.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other team members to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to trauma support.
    • Liaise with external partners and referral sources to ensure participants have access to a broad range of services.
    • Maintain accurate records of participant progress and programme outcomes.
  • Evaluation and Improvement:
    • Collect and analyse feedback from participants to assess the effectiveness of the programme.
    • Make recommendations for improvements and implement changes to enhance the programme.
    • Prepare reports and updates for the charity’s management and board as required.


  • Professional qualification in psychology, counselling, social work, or extensive experience in an advanced practitioner setting.
  • Specialised training in working with trauma.
  • Strong facilitation and group leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Passion for mental health and the mission/ethos of Healing for the Heart.
